Happy Halloween everyone. It was a really busy day, but I managed to get my Halloween inspired mani done for the last day of the Nail-Aween Challenge. My Halloween inspiration is trick or treating. I bet you can guess why. :)
This is my first blog worthy picture taken with my newly constructed light-box The setup isn't perfect yet but this picture has given me hope that I'll perfect it soon. I'm incredibly happy that I managed to get, if not perfection, something of this quality after full dark. As for the mani, I used a coat of L.A. Colors black and topped it with two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. On the second coat I dipped each nail (done one at a time) into Wilton Halloween Sprinkles. A candy/sprinkles mani has always been something I wanted to try, so why not now?
After such a hectic month packed full of nail art, I'm going to take a short break ... give my nails a bit of a break and enjoy my upcoming birthday. I'll be back next week with some awesome posts! You won't believe some of the things I bought over the past month. :)
I love this! How did you make your lightbox?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I searched out a ton of tutorials and pieced together something that works for me. I started with a mid-sized box and cut off the flaps. I cut windows into three sides (top and sides with the open box tipped towards me) leaving 1" around the windows. Line the inside of the box with white paper (I used printer paper cut down to fit) and fill the windows with white tissue paper. I picked up two clip-on lamps/reading lamps and daylight light bulbs for in them. These light bulbs will give you a cleaner, whiter light so pictures don't turn orange. I set the lights on either side of the box and likely could have down without the top window. The next step is simply finding the right setting on your camera. For me, I turned off the automatic settings and found the incandescent setting for my white balance. I also turned off my flash and made sure my macro was on.
DeleteIt's mostly trial and error until you get workable pictures. I must have taken hundreds of pictures and changed the setup of my light box just as many times. :)
What a great manicure. How many days did does candy sprinkles resist on your nails?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I didn't leave them on very long, a few hours, but some of the candy was already falling off. I think it might have worked better and lasted longer with smaller sprinkles.
DeleteLove this! Can't imagine how you remove it though...
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was actually really easy to remove. I rolled my thumb over the sprinkles with a bit of pressure and they rolled right off. After that it was simple polish cleanup.
